Why this ship matters
The surviving service record identifies this as Picard's next command after the Stargazer, responding to a distress call from colonists in the Carnelian minefield.
That mission is where Picard first encountered Natasha Yar, whose courage later influenced his choice of senior staff aboard the Enterprise-D.
Some auxiliary historical sources identify the ship involved in that Yar rescue as the USS Victory, a 24th-century Constellation-class Starfleet vessel registered NCC-9754.
The primary USS Victory record names Captain Zimbata as its commanding officer and ties the vessel's name to HMS Victory. Geordi La Forge and Susanna Leijten served aboard it in the early 2360s, and in 2362 it investigated the disappearance of the Federation colony on Tarchannen III.
The Victory later rendezvoused with the USS Enterprise-D in 2365, was listed on Starfleet operations charts during stellar nuclei population surveys in the 2360s, and reported numerous casualties during the Dominion War in 2374.
Because the Picard command link comes from disputed auxiliary material rather than the primary service record, this archive keeps the page filed as Picard's unnamed starship while noting the USS Victory identification as a plausible historical-source attribution.
